Family of Samuel Statler (son of Casper Statler of Somerset County, Pennsylvania)
Samuel Statler was born January 15, 1775 in Pennsylvania and died May 12, 1860. He is buried in the Statler Family Cemetery in Shade Township, Somerset County.
He married Magdalena Mostoller, who was born about 1774 and died January 17, 1846. She is also buried in the Statler Family Cemetery.
Children of Samuel and Magdalena (Mostoller) Statler
One of the most puzzling things in the Statler Family is the fact that Daniel's son William is claimed by two different families. And the most financially successful Statler has a hazy heritage.
Daniel's family
Daniel's first marriage to Catherine Ling produced at least two children, both baptized in the Glade Lutheran Church.
William Jackson Statler born 4 Jan. 1828 baptized 11 May 1828
Jeremiah Statler born 31 Dec. 1829 baptized 14 Jan. 1830
Catherine died March 9, 1838 and is buried in the Statler Cemetery in Shade Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
Daniel married second Sarah Glass about 1849. Their children were

Now the family history I have states that this William is the son of Daniel. But the relatives of the founder of the Statler Hotel Chain, Ellsworth Milton Statler wrote that his father William Jackson Statler is the son of Daniel. I have found no other Statler's in Somerset County to have a son William the correct age.

The idea of deportation soon again was taken up as the number of prisoners was
increasing in Switzerland. This time the Court, erected to charge of the Mennonite
matters, known as the "Baptists Chamber" was informed of the affairs in April
17, 1709 and directed to start vigorously to clean them all out of the country. So
vigorously did this Court take hold of its work that shortly more than five hundred were
driven out of the country and it was hoped that soon they would all be gone. It
seems that two places where Mennonites had been imprisoned were in the "Upper
Jail" and on the "Island". Among those mentioned are Benjamin
Brackbill of Troxelwald, Christian Krayenbuhl of Norben, Hans Wager (Wenger) a weaver of
Wattenwell, Peter Thouen of Reutigen, Jacob Neueuschwanger (Newswanger) of Stocken, Hans
Burki of Gibel, Christian Steiner of Grafenbuhl, Elsbeth Steiner, his sister Catri,
Aebersold, Anna Shenk, Hans Gerber's wife; a baby, Catrina Leuenberger of Wytigen, Peter
Rubell's wife of Aesehlen; Elsbeth Gerber, Peter Gerber's wife of Zimmerzey; Christian
Danzler, an old bedfast man, Babi Forni, and old woman quite deaf. To the Baptists
incarcerated of the Island were added Rudolph Stettler of
Stettlen; Durse Rohrer of Ittigen of Hans Rupp of Gunten. (Muller 253)

Marg. Oberli, of Ruderwyl, escaped; so did Kath Bieri of Trub; and Mary Kling of
Trub; and Anna Habegger of Trub; and Hans Shellenberger and his wife, Elsbeth
Neuenschwander of Trub. Amoung the expedition were Daniel Becker, Ulrich Hugo,
student and Andreas Jeggli a tanner. Besides these the following voluntary travelers
had been placed on the ship; Rudolf Stettler and his wife, Elsbeth
Widmer, with two young sons, thirteen and fifteen years of age respectively, a weaver of
Stettlen, who went through to Amsterdam.....

Rudolph Stotler (Group 6)
Rudolph Stotler was a veteran of the American Revolution. The Pennsylvania Archives Fifth Series volume VII have many references to him as a Captain from Lancaster County in 1780 to 1782.
He was born about 1750 probably in Pennsylvania and died May 5, 1825 in Allegheny County Pennsylvania. He appears on the tax list in Earl Township, Lancaster County in 1771 and in 1779 he is listed in Lampeter Township, Lancaster County. He was in Franklin County in the 1790 census, and in Allegheny County in 1800.
He was married twice, first to Barbara Scroogs and second to Frances (Fanny) Bush. The Petition for Partition of his estate says he had 16 children but only names 15.

Rudolph's pension records list Jacob Stotler as his brother. Jacob died in Franklin County in 1790 and his widow moved to Allegany County with her seven children about the same time as Rudolph moved there.
Jacob's brother Samuel Statler is listed in Jacob's estate records. This Samuel died in 1804 age 45 living six sons many who settled in Bedford and Somerset Counties.
This indicates that we have three individuals with the same father
Rudolph Stotler born about 1750
Jacob Stotler born about 1750
Samuel Statler born about 1760
Some of the material I have says that Jacob's father was Emanuel, and that he was the immigrant, but Emanuel is not listed on any passenger lists.
I would say family tradition is all we have on the father of these three.

Pension Records of Peter Stautler of Missouri
Peter Stautler or Statler of Dolles Mills, Bollinger County, Missouri applied for a pension as a veteran of the War of 1812 in 1872. He was drafted and sent to North Missouri about Boonsville with the whole company to fight the indians, and was at that place when Jackson's Battle was fought at New Orleans. Did not get to see any indians but friendly indians. His discharge is lost or mislaid, and he cannot now find it.
Because the Peace Treaty was ratified before the Battle of New Orleans he was denied a pension.
He served in Capt. Hugh Timmin's Company.
Peter had previously been granted bounty land. His wife's name was given as Mary Margaret.

Abstract of the will of Stephen Stradler
Stephen Stradler of Springhill Township, Westmoreland County, yeoman. "Very Sick in body." My four children: George, Michael, Stephen, Catharine Highly. Mentions plantation on Dunkard Creek, Monongelia Co., Virginia. Executors: John Shoemaker and John Artman. Witnesses: John Griffith, Eleanor Griffith and Robert Richey. Testator signed with his mark. Will dated 9 Jan 1783; proved 23 Mar 1784. Will BK I-1, p.11.
ED. NOTE; The other abstract of this will that I have lists the sons as George, Michael, and John. Further research is necessary. A copy of the original will should be examined. Information on the other people named in the will might connect this family with the place they lived before 1783. Most probably Michael is the same as Michael Stateler who moved to Ohio and George is the same as the early settler of Ohio County, Kentucky who's descendents lived in Spencer County, Indiana as well as Kentucky.
