Abbott, Lloyd C.

Abbott, Lloyd C.

Lloyd C. Abbott, 93, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Millersville, son of Charles Wilson and Sally Malinda Phelps Abbott. He and Daisy Lucille Gibbons were married Oct. 18, 1941. She passed away Feb. 7, 1992.

Lloyd grew up in the Millersville and Jackson areas, graduating from Jackson High School.

He entered the Navy July 10, 1940, and served until Oct. 21, 1945, as a chief yeoman.

Upon separation from the Navy Lloyd began a career with Brown Shoe Co., working most of his 35 years in the St. Louis area. He was a numbers man, keeping track of expenses and maintaining statistics.

He enjoyed the country life on his 80 acres farm near Marble Hill, Missouri. He would wake in the morning have a cup of coffee and listen to the birds, in the afternoon and evening he would listen to whatever ballgame may be on. He was an avid sports fan. Lloyd was a very unassuming man with a wry sense of humor and a generous personality. He was instantly liked by everyone he came in contact with.

Loving survivors include a son, Gary W. Abbott and wife Gail of Rock Hill, Missouri; two grandsons, Derek and Ryan Abbott of Rock Hill; cousins; nephews; and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years, Lucille; five brothers, Louis, Lester, Lacy, Leemon and Loren Abbott.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Huffman officiating. Interment will be in Kenyon Cemetery near Delta, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Kenyon Cemetery Fund.
