Abbott, Wanda Lee (nee Austin)
Wanda Lee Abbott, 82, of Jackson, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 14, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, to Lewis Lee and Dessie Mae James Austin. She and Robert J. “Bob” Abbott were married November 9, 1949, at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. They had been married 53 years when Bob died July 12, 2003.
Wanda was a homemaker, and cooked many years at the former Starlite west of Jackson. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two children, Jack L. (Jeanie) Abbott of Belleville, Ill, Vickie S. (Mike) Webb of Jackson; four grandchildren, Doug (Julie) Spooler of Cape Girardeau, Jessica (Jerry) Pickett of Jackson, John Abbott of O’Fallon, Jayme Abbott of St. Louis, Seth (Kristi) Webb of St. Louis, Michelle Webb of St. Louis, Amanda Webb of Tucson, Ariz., Kasey Wagner of Belleville, Ill.; and 8 great-grandchildren, Cole, Camryn, Kearsten, Chase, Jacie, Blake, Sophie, Josephine.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Deacon Walt Biri will open visitation with the observance of parish prayers and the Rosary at 3 PM, Sunday, September 1, 2013, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Visitation will conclude at 7 PM.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 2, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. John Harth officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Legion Scholarship Fund.
