Alkemeyer, Eileen Rose (nee Meyer)

Eileen Rose Meyer Alkemeyer, 58, of Bartlesville, Okla., formerly of Apple Creek, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Jane Phillips Medical Center, after a heroic battle against cancer.

She was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Perryville, Mo., to Adolph and Willette Ponder Meyer. She and Charlie Alkemeyer were married Dec. 10, 1977.

Eileen graduated from Perryville High School in 1971. She enjoyed sewing dresses, quilting, making crafts and having lunch with friends. The family attended St. James Catholic Church.

For a time, Eileen volunteered at Martha's Task, where she became affectionately known as "The Scrounger" for finding uses for things that otherwise would have been thrown away. She prayed every day to be "a loving wife and a good mother," and she will indeed be remembered that way.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years; a son, Bryan Alkemeyer of New York; two daughters, Sarah (Shiloh) Thurman of Bartlesville, Cheryl Alkemeyer of California; a brother, Paul (Dolores) Meyer of Apple Creek; three sisters, Mary (Randy) Zoellner of Friedheim, Karen (Larry) Kohlfeld of Apple Creek, Linda (Steve) Martin of Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Les (Delores) Alkemeyer of Perryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial Mass will be held at noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure at www.komen.org.
