Arnzen, Henry George, Jr.

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Henry George "Junior" Arnzen Jr., 84, of Leopold passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 25, 1925, at Laflin, Mo., son of Henry G. and Mary Drika Scharenborg Arnzen. He married Rose Mary Landewe on Aug. 8, 1953, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold.

From 1964 to 1996 he operated the Laflin shooting match every Tuesday night. He was a self-employed farmer, carpenter and sorghum maker.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus 5898 and was named a Knight of the Year. He volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 315 for many years and was a member of St. John's Church.

He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Robert and Martin Arnzen of Leopold, Joe Arnzen of Scott City, Paul Arnzen of Laflin, David Arnzen of Hillsboro, Mo., Anthony Arnzen of St. Louis; six daughters, Ida Arnzen and Louise Kileen of Laflin, Laura Miesner of Frohna, Mo., Margaret Titus of New Hampshire, Mary Theresa Glastetter of New Hamburg, Mo., Janet Muroski of Minnesota; two sisters, Celestine Horrell and Wilma Arnzen of Marble Hill, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A brother, Leonard Arnzen, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Church, with the Rev. Robert Landewe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors conducted.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home.
