Bachmann, Hubert H.

Hubert H. Bachmann, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 14, 1930, in Crosstown, Mo., the son of Henry M. and Hedwig C. "Hattie" Oster Bachmann.

He and Jean Rathert were married on Nov. 30, 1957, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in St. Louis. She died Feb. 21, 1998. He later married Mamie Kraemer Abernathy Steffens April 15, 2000, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Bachmann graduated from Perryville High School and Southeast Missouri State University with a B.S. in agriculture. He served in the Marine Corps in the Korean War from Jan. 4, 1952, to Jan. 5, 1954.

He was a feed salesman for Moorman Manufacturing Co. After retirement, he worked for Perryville School District. His passion was always in agriculture and farming.

Bachmann was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church and was previously a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown. He served in many offices and on numerous committees in both church congregations.

He was a member of Lutheran Laymen's League, Perry County Pork Producers, Stephens Ministry, LLL Dartball League and Perryville Vocational School Advisory Board. He was also a 4-H leader, attended the Mission Outreach to Siberia Mission Trip and was a charter member of the Perry County Rural Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Bachmann of Cape Girardeau; two sons, David H. Bachmann (Dana) of Uniontown, Mo., Roger H. Bachmann (Mary) of Perryville, Mo.; daughter, Carol Steffens (Gary) of Jackson; a brother, Oliver Bachmann of Perryville; four sisters, Verna Boggan of Jacksonville, Ark., Helen Dickman of Plymouth, Mich., Aileen Hadler of Quincy, Ill., Betty Bischoff of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Adam and Lisa Steffens, Hanna, Haley and Spencer Bachmann, Brittney, Jesse and Casey Bachmann; and a great-grandson, Tripp.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Jean Rathert Bachmann.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at Crosstown.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, Zion Lutheran Church, Hanover Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran Church Mission Trips.
