Bailey, Miriam (nee Rickman)

Pocahontas - Miriam Rickman Bailey, 95, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at Randolph Home is Pocahontas.

Miriam was born in the Elevenpoint community in Randolph County, AR. on May 18, 1915, the first of four daughters born to O.B. and Ethel (Horsman) Rickman. She married Millard Bailey in 1936. During their life together, they owned and operated a general store in Ravenden Springs for eleven years and a cattle ranch for fifty years. They were members of the Ozark Handicraft Guild, and enjoyed making jewelry out of native stones.

Miriam was a teacher when she was young. Later, she was employed by the US Postal Service in the Ravenden Springs Post office for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two sisters, infant Erica Rickman and Sybil Reese.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Killion and husband Grant; a son Bill Bailey and wife, Freeda; four grandchildren; Deborah Killion, Lisa DeYoung, Brenda Cooper, and Brian Bailey. Five great grandchildren, and by a sister, Freda Welch of Pocahontas.

Miriam was a member of the Church of Christ, worshiping with the congregation at Ravenden Springs.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Grant Killion and James Inness officiating. Burial will follow in Janes Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday night form 5-7 p.m.
