Baker, Emmet William "Bill"

Emmet William "Bill" Baker, 88, of Scott City, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to his heavenly home Friday, May 10, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Randles, son of William Reece Baker and Edith Thiele Baker. He and Leola Ludeen "Lou" Arnold were married July 14, 1962. They were married 50 years at the time of his death.

Baker was a retired house painter/contractor and worked many years with Dale Reeves Painting Co. He was an avid fisherman and NASCAR enthusiast and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

From 1945 until 1949, he served in the U.S. Navy and was in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry (Scott) Holder of Scott City; a son, William E. "Billy" (Jamie) Baker of Scott City; five grandchildren, Kelly Holder, Morgan Baker, Ann Baker, Ashley Vetter and Ben Vetter; and a sister, Charlsie "Kitten" White of Granite City, Ill.

His parents, a brother, and four sisters preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
