Balsman, Edgar Leo

UNIONTOWN, Mo. -- Edgar Leo Balsman, 81, of Uniontown died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Perry County, Mo., son of Leo Andrew and Gertrude Caroline Unterreiner Balsman Sr. He and Corrine Anne Blechle were married Aug. 16, 1947. She died May 10, 1994.

Balsman owned and operated Balsman Sales and Service. He also taught auto body repair at Sikeston School District 24 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, Mo., and St. Joseph's Men's organization; William J. Barnwell Knights of Columbus Council 1263, Missouri State Teachers Association, Sikeston Public School Teachers Association, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, International Edsel Car Club, and Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Stan Balsman of Uniontown; five daughters, Carol Bindbeutel and Brenda Miller of St. Charles, Mo., Diane Balsman of St. Louis, Jan Heise of Perryville, Mo., Sheila Kirn of Friedheim, Mo.; his mother of Uniontown.

He is also survived by a brother, Leo Balsman of Apple Creek; two sisters, Anna Ernst and Jean Buerck of Perryville; a friend, Felicia Fox of Cape Girardeau; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, an infant brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville from 4 to 9 p.m. today, and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:45 a.m. The Knights of Columbus parish wake will be at 4:30 p.m. today.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Apple Creek, with the Revs. Jim Unterreiner and Tony Dattilo officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery at Apple Creek.
