PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Herman A. Balsman, 77, of Perryville died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home.

He was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Oak Ridge to John Balsman and Bertha Trapp Balsman. He married Norma A. Bohnert on Nov. 23, 1957, in Biehle, Mo. She survives in Perryville.

Herman was a concrete finisher working in construction for Mike Light Cement. He also was a farmer. He loved to shoot pool, was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed time with family.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, Mo., and was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Norma A. Balsman of Perryville; one daughter, Sandy (Jon) Schnurbusch of Perryville; one son, Terry (Donna) Balsman of De Soto, Mo.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Wingerter and Ida (Kenny) Buerck, all of Biehle; and one brother, Fred Balsman of St. Louis.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Balsman and Lee Balsman.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. Parish prayers with the Knights of Columbus will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Monday. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Tony Dattilo and Rev. Jim French officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Apple Creek.

The family requests memorials to Serenity Hospice, Masses at St. Joseph Parish or the St. Vincent school system.
