Barks, Basil A.

Basil A. Barks, of Leopold, died January 6, 1995 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 10, 1915 at Scopus, the son of Edwards and Sarah (Stevens) Barks. On August 27, 1936 he married the former Fern Grindstaff. She died November 16, 1986.

He married Addie Winchester Thiele on August 27, 1988. She survives.

He is also survived by four daughters, Judy Barks of Arnold; Joyce Korn of St. Ann; Janet Dalton of Whitewater; and Wanda Ramsey of Puxico, MO; a step-daughter, Jeffrey Adams of Marble Hill; a brother Wendell Barks of Jackson; two sisters, Mae McMullen of Marble Hill; and Ola Schreiner of Jackson; 9 granchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Barks Chapel General Baptist Church. He was ordained deacon in 1947.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 417 of Whitewater.

Three brothers, two sisters and one grandson preceded him in death.

Services were January 9 at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Burial was in Bollinger County Memorial Park at Marble Hill.
