Barks, William Henry
Former Cape Mayor's Brother Succumbs; Perryville Doctor

Perryville, Jan. 24 - Funeral services for Dr. W.H. Barks of Perryville, who died
Saturday, were conducted Tuesday. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Taken to St. John's
Hospital in St. Louis Jan. 9, the physician died of a complication of ailments and
pneumonia.
Dr. Barks, who practiced medicine here 37 years, was a brother of the late James A. Barks,
formerly mayor of Cape Girardeau. Mayor Barks died Feb. 10, 1936.
He was born in Bollinger County, June 5, 1877, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Barks. He
attended public schools of Perry County, a teachers' institute, Carleton College at
Farmington and the Barnes Medical College in St. Louis. He was graduated from medical
school in 1903.
Dr. Barks is survived by two daughters, Mrs. V.J. Nesslein of Perryville and Mrs. Henry
Vogt of St. Louis County.
