Magistrate of Cape County Dies

JACKSON - Clyde Baugh, 64 years old, county magistrate in Cape County, died of a heart condition at his home here at 1 a.m. today. He had been ill for two months and his condition was aggravated last week when he developed a cold. Mr. Baugh had been off duty for a number of weeks and the work of the office had been handled by Magistrate M.E. Montgomery of Scott County.

Mr. Baugh was born on April 13, 1891, near Jackson, being a son of Frank and Estell Baugh. He was married on July 15, 1915 to Miss Sadie Birch.

Judge Baugh is survived by his wife, three sons, Rev. Frank O. Baugh of Shawnee, Okla., Clyde W. Baugh of Paris, Tenn., and Robert Lee Baugh of Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Craig of Jackson and nine grandchildren.

As a youth Mr. Baugh worked for the LaPierre-Sawyer Handle Co. of Jackson and for many years was a barber. For a number of years he operated his own shop in Jackson.

For 12 years Mr. Baugh was justice of the peace, and is the only person who has served as magistrate in the county. He was in his third 4-year term. Judge Baugh was elected as a Republican.

He was a lifelong Baptist, and at time of his death was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

The body is at the McCombs Funeral Home. Rev. Rilbert Watson of Cape Girardeau will have charge of the services.

Completion of arrangements is awaiting the arrival of the sons.
