Beitman, Hazel Monell (nee Mabuce)

Hazel Monell Beitman, 89, formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where she had lived the past 17 years.

Monell was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Bessville, Mo., to Emil and Mary Murray Mabuce. She was a triplet to a sister, Audell, and a brother, Delwin. The triplets were the youngest of five children. The other two siblings were brothers, Estel and Benton. All of the siblings preceded Monell in death.

Monell graduated from the former Lutesville High School, and then attended Southeast Missouri State University. She briefly taught school at the former Riemann School in Millersville and the former Hurricane Fork School. She then moved to St. Louis and worked several years at Safeco Insurance and then as a dental assistant.

She and Herbert Beitman were married Nov. 30, 1961. In the early 1970s, they moved to Jackson. They had been married 18 years when Herb passed away Feb. 21, 1980.

Until moving to the Lutheran Home, Monell was an active member of Millersville United Methodist Church, participating in the church choir and holding various offices in UMW.

Loving survivors include two sisters-in-law, Juanita (the late Roy) Robins of Jackson, Marion (the late Estel) Mabuce of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stan Hargis officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Millersville United Methodist Church.
