Berghoff, Leo Joseph

KELSO, Mo. -- Leo Joseph Berghoff, 79, of Kelso died peacefully at home Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 28, 1935, son of Theodore and Lorena Georger Berghoff. He and Hilda Wubker were married July 23, 1960, at St John's Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, and a 3rd Degree member of St. Joseph Knights of Columbus 6420. He worked hard all his life and retired from Boatmen's Bank.

Leo enjoyed tinkering on the family farm with his tractor, gardening, and being with his family. He will be greatly missed, being warmly remembered for his smile, even on bad days, and for his patience, kindness, faith in God, and perseverance to the end. It gives us comfort to know his pain is over and he is at peace.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda; three daughters, Carolyn (Greg) Hency and their children, Brian (Rachael) Hency, Valerie (Kelly) Snell and Stephanie, Joyce (Cecil) Luten and their sons, Ben and Andy, Carla (Stacey) Glaus and their daughter, Alecia; five sons, Daniel and daughter, Katie, John (Susan) and daughters, Alison and Megan, Linus, James (Tina) and their children, Aaron, Andrew and Courtney, and Eric. He was great-grandpa to McKenzie, Breanna and Arabella. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Calhoun.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Tyler Glaus.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Leo's memory to the local food pantry or St. Augustine Cemetery Fund.
