BREWER, Mo. — George Edward Berkbuegler, 83, of Brewer died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Perry Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Perry County, son of Edward and Thresa K. Ernst Berkbuegler. He and Ida Mae Mattingly were married Nov. 8, 1947.

Berkbuegler was a maintenance worker at Perry County Memorial Hospital and also was a livestock and agriculture farmer. He was a life member of Christ the Savior Catholic Church and Holy Name Society at Brewer, VFW Post 4282 and American Legion Post 133.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; seven children, Sandra (Eldon) Valleroy of Perryville and children Paula Lottes and Kimberly Hoff; Larry (Debby) Berkbuegler of Cape Girardeau and children Amy Jansen and Chad Berkbuegler; Ronald (Barbara) Berkbuegler of Perryville and children Nicholas and Kyle Berkbuegler; Linda Berkbuegler of Perryville; Debra (Michael) Nadeau of Perryville and children Michael and Kevin Berkbuegler; Terry (Tina) Berkbuegler of Perryville and children Carrie and Jason Berkbuegler; and Carla (Danny) Crump of Scott City.

Also six great-grandchildren, Brett and Brooke Lottes, Lane and Evan Berkbuegler, and Abby and Lexi Jansen; a brother, Melvin Berkbuegler of Perryville; three sisters, Alma Mattingly, Mildred Zahner and Gladys Renaud, all of Perryville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today and 6:30 to 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. The parish wake will be at 5 p.m. today, followed by VFW service. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the Savior Church, with the Rev. Richard Kasznel officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by VFW Post 4282 and Delta Team.

Memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home, American Red Cross, or Crown Hospice.
