PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Alice A. Besand, 83, of Perryville died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 6, 1928, in Sereno, Mo., daughter of Gilbert and Clara Chappius Walter. She and Charles J. Besand were married Oct. 5, 1946.

Mrs. Besand was a secretary with Farm Bureau. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Ladies Sodality, American Legion Auxiliary and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau; three sons and a daughter, Harold (Peggy) Besand of Austin, Texas, Richard (Hazel) Besand and Julie (Thomas) Unterreiner of Perryville, Chuck (Chris) Besand of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers and a sister, Howard "Doc" Walter of St. Peters, Mo., June Flaherty of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert Walter of Sereno.

Also 12 grandchildren, Adam Besand, Brian Besand, Jennifer Terrill, Charlene Rauh, Allen Besand, Eric Besand, Angi Herman, Wendy Merritt, Brian Brickhaus, Kelly Martin, Sarah Besand, Catherine Besand; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and guardians, G.B. and Nora Huber.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to service time Saturday at St. Vincent's Church. The wake will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Young and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A funeral will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 for 83-year-old Alice A. Besand and 87 year old Charles Besand, both of Perryville. Alice Besand died April 10, 2012 at Perry County Memorial Hospital. Charles Besand died April 11, 2012.

She was born June 6, 1928 in Sereno, the daughter of the Gilbert and Clara (Chappius) Walter who both preceded her in death.

He was born September 24, 1924 in Perryville.

Alice and Charles were married on October 5, 1946.

The couple is survived by three sons: Harold (Peggy) Besand of Austin, Texas; Richard (Hazel) Besand of Perryville and Chuck (Chris) Besand of Nashville, Tennessee, a daughter: Julie (Thomas) Unterreiner of Perryville; 12 grandchildren: Adam Besand, Brian Besand, Jennifer Terrill, Charlene Rauh, Allen Besand, Eric Besand, Angi Herman, Wendy Merritt, Brian Brickhaus, Kelly Martin, Sarah Besand and Catherine Besand; 18 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson.

She is survived by two brothers: Howard "Doc" Walter of St. Peters, June Flaherty of Kansas City Robert Walter of Sereno.

She was also preceded in death by her guardians: G.B. and Nora Huber.

Alice Besand was a secretary for Farm Bureau and a house wife.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Ladies Sodality, American Legion Auxiliary and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Mr. Besand was a Perry County Treasurer for 24 years, farmer of livestock and agriculture, and manager of Perry County Co-op. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Holy Name Society, life member of the American Legion were he served as Post and District Commander as well as 38 years as the Veterans Service Officer, Perryville Chamber of Commerce and he was very active in the county, state and national levels of the Republican party. He was a World War II Army Veteran.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 13th, 2012 and 7-10 a.m. Saturday, April 14th, 2012 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. A Catholic Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.

A funeral mass for Charles and Alice Besand will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Milton Ryan CM officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent de Paul Parish or School Endowment Fund.

The Young and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
