Black, Robert Richard "Bob"

Robert Richard "Bob" Black, 83, of Scott City passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Cardwell, Missouri, son of Ulyses Marion and Cora O. Francis Black. He and Ruth Louise Kirkman were married June 4, 1949. He later married June Martin Baugh Aug. 7, 1999.

Bob worked for Weiss Construction Co. in St. Louis, and was a member of Carpenters Local 2214 in De Soto, Missouri. He lived in Stoddard County until retiring in 1989, at which time he moved to Scott City. Bob was a very talented musician. He wrote many songs, with two of the gospel songs he wrote making the Top Ten in England. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Jackson, and an honorary member of Rockabilly Hall of Fame in Jackson, Tennessee.

Loving survivors include his wife, June of Scott City; two sons, Ricky L. Black of Scott City and Wayne (Glenda) Black of Dexter, Missouri; a daughter, Mary K. (Franklin) Sander of Sikeston, Missouri; three stepsons, Robert (Carole) Baugh and Stephen (Theresa) Baugh of Jackson and Clyde (Cheryl) Baugh of St. Louis; two sisters, Dorothy Jarrells of Dexter and Shelby Sadler of Bloomfield, Missouri; 21 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Nelda Jean Russell and Trisha Sander; a son, Ronnie Black; a stepdaughter, Patricia "Patty" Baugh; and 10 siblings.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
