Blechle, Michael H.

Michael H. Blechle, 66, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 21, 1947, in Biehle, Mo., to Valentine and Mildred Pingel Blechle. He and Carolyn Fornkohl were married July 27, 1968, in Cape Girardeau.

Michael served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

He was a graduate of Perryville High School and from the School of Banking at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He worked first for Mid South Finance Co. He spent 26 years in banking with Cape Mercantile Bank, Boatmen's Bank and Southeast Missouri Bank. Upon retiring from banking he opened a branch for Norwest Mortgage in Cape Girardeau, leaving after four years to go into the golf business. The last nine years of his working career was with Charter Communications, retiring in April 2010.

Michael was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and served on the parish council and school board. During his professional career he was a member of Cape Jaycees, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, and was one of the founders, charter members, and past president of Cape Noon Optimist Club. He taught banking for the National Institute of Banking at Southeast Missouri State University four years.

He was active in several sports but his passion was golf. He was a member of Cape Jaycees Municipal Golf Course more than 30 years, was a member of Elks Lodge 639, and was a 30-year member of the Southeast Hospital Association.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Blechle of Cape Girardeau; a son, Rick Blechle of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Jennifer Blechle of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Melvin Blechle of Perryville, Mo., Richard Blechle of Blue Ridge, Mo.; a sister, Sharon Blechle Dow of Perryville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with military honors conducted by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to Cape Noon Optimist Club.
