Bollinger, Cletus Pearl

Cletus P. Bollinger, 93, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 18, 1922, in Sedgewickville, Missouri, the son of Floyd and Laura Kizer Bollinger. He and Mary M. Myer were married Nov. 23, 1946, in Jackson; she passed away Aug. 26, 1991. Cletus then married Violet Barks Johnson on Aug. 17, 1992, in Jackson; she preceded him in death Jan. 18, 2011.

Cletus served in the Army Air Force from October 1942 to April 1946, obtaining the rank of sergeant, working as an airframe and power-plant mechanic, specializing in sheet metal repair while serving in North Africa. He was a 70-year member of American Legion Post 158. Besides enjoying long drives in the country, he was an avid welder; he would fashion many types of animals such as birds, dogs, deer and horses, as well as bugs of all types. Cletus worked for several years as a mechanic and bus driver for the Jackson School District.

Loving survivors include two stepdaughters, Pam Haupt and Patricia Johnson, both of Cape Girardeau; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Mary, and second wife, Violet.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with pastor Jerry Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Sargent's Chapel Lutheran Church, County Road 234, Sedgewickville, MO.
