Bollinger, Roy Alvine

Roy A. Bollinger, 95, of Jackson passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had resided since 2010.

He was born June 6, 1916, in Sedgewickville, Mo., son of Pearl C. and Emma Penny Bollinger. He married Maggie Alene Goehman on Feb. 10, 1940, and moved to Jackson where they made their home and raised their family. They had been married 52 years when she preceded him in death Feb. 18, 1992.

Roy attended the Limbaugh School, and as a teenager worked on the family farm and at his father's gas station. He then worked for a number of years in the timber industry at the former Raines Saw Mill west of Jackson.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1945 at Dalhart, Texas.

After his honorable discharge he was a cutter at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson, retiring after 39 years. During his retirement he transported vehicles for various car dealerships in the Jackson/Cape Girardeau area.

He was a faithful member of Jackson First Baptist Church, a 65-year member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and also was a founder and charter member of Capaha Antique Car Club.

Roy was known for his quick wit and his love of antique cars. He could be found displaying his antique cars at car shows and in parades throughout the Midwest.

Loving survivors include two sons, Roy (Carol) Bollinger Jr. and Michael (Leanne) Bollinger of Jackson; four daughters, Shirley (Robert) Talley of Cape Girardeau, Beverly (Richard Leland) Nelson, Karen Smith and Mary Meyer, all of Jackson; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Bollinger of Jackson.

Also 14 grandchildren, Rodney Bollinger, Cindy (Sammy) Lawson, Landon (Jamie) Bollinger, Allan Lancaster, Amy (Tom) Ratledge, Angie (Corey) Finch, Jeff (Cynthia) Talley, Kent (Becky) Talley, Scott (Colleen) Talley, Vickie (Mark) Rinehart, Leigh (Tim) Miller, Rick (Adriene) Nelson, Tim (Sherri) Smith and Chad Meyer; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Cora Sutton.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harold "Butch" Bollinger; two brothers; and three sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion service will be held at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at First Baptist Church of Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church of Jackson Multipurpose Building Fund, or the church or charity of choice.
