Boren, Elsie Edna (nee Stueve)

Elsie Edna Boren, 88, of New Wells passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.

She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in the ridge community near Wittenberg, Mo., daughter of Theodore Martin and Caroline Wilhelmine Stueve. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Mo. She and Norris Boren were married Nov. 22, 1942, in Altenburg.

After their marriage, she transferred her membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells, where as a member of Ladies Aid she enjoyed helping to prepare meals for various functions, but most of all she loved to quilt and visit with friends.

Elsie and Norris owned and operated New Wells Mercantile Store 37 years. During their time operating the store, they made many friends, and it was rumored that Elsie made the best hamburgers in the county. Elsie and Norris sold the store and retired in 1982.

Loving survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Meinz of Farmington, Mo., Mary K. and Larry Rhodes of New Wells; five grandchildren, Jennifer Skinner and husband, Shannon, Jeff Meinz and wife, Amy, Amy Chiles and husband, Jim, Craig Rhodes and wife, Nicole, and Brian Rhodes and wife, Amanda; 10 great-grandchildren, Alicen and Zachary Skinner, Gavin, Jenna, Julia, Jadyn and Gentry Meinz, Talon, Dolan and Hollyn Chiles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Ida Rauh; and two brothers, Norbert and Harry Stueve.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund or donor's choice.
