Bowers, Orville Truman

Orville Truman Bowers, 88, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at his home.

He was born July 4, 1920, near Oak Ridge, son of Lewis O. and Esther E. Seabaugh Bowers. He and Helen J. Carlton were married April 10, 1942.

He was a World War II veteran, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and Old Salem United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bowers graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. He was employed by the former International Shoe Co. before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He then worked as a mechanic at Seabaugh Motors and Bangert Ford Tractor.

Loving survivors include his wife of Jackson; two daughters, Wanda Bowers of Cape Girardeau and Vonda Hoffman (Randy Carnell) of Jackson; two sons, Michael (Debbie) Bowers of Cape Girardeau and Stanley Bowers of the state of Washington; seven grandchildren, Brandy (Kurt) Quade, Mandy (Josh) Grogan, Erica Bass (Matt Miller), Jason (Ashley) Bowers, Tammy (Zach) Fulenwider, Michelle Smith, and Angella Bowers; and 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Parker and Tessa Quade; Caleb, Austin and Brylie Grogan; Hayden Bowers; and Acacia, Aurora and Aragon Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gladys L. Surface; and two infant granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clifton Trentham officiating. Burial will be in Balch Cemetery near Zalma, Mo., with full military honors.

The visitation for Orville T. Bowers of Jackson has been changed to 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home, with an American Legion service at 6 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
