Bowman, Richard Lee "Buck"

Richard Lee "Buck" Bowman, 83, of Jackson died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Monticello House.

He was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, to Walter and Bertha Friedhof Bowman. He and Shirlene Ford were married April 22, 1950, in Piggott, Ark. She passed away Sept. 19, 1997.

Buck was a truck driver with Biederman Furniture Co. 13 years, and with Elfrink Truck Lines more than 20 years.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1962. While serving he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his service time in Germany.

After retirement his hobby was buying and selling used cars.

Survivors include three sons, Rodney (Vickie) Bowman, Rick (Brenda) Bowman and Keith Bowman, all of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Rebecca (Larry) Driscoll of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Harold (Alice) Bowman of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Betty Schweppe of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a son, Robert "Bob" Bowman.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jack Cathcart officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
