Brandes, Sophia Elizabeth (nee Kurre)
Sophia Elizabeth Brandes, 94, of Jackson died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Monticello House.
She was born Jan. 17, 1914, in Kurreville, daughter of Gus and Leonora Fulbright Kurre. She and Otto Oscar "Sam" Brandes were married April 28, 1948, in Piggott, Ark. He died Nov. 10, 1996.
Brandes was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. She attended school at Kurreville and was a 1934 graduate of Jackson High School.
She and her husband owned and operated a farm north of Jackson, and she was a shoe repairer more than 40 years at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson.
Survivors include a brother, E.P. Kurre of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
