Brennan, Lucille Emogene "Jeanne" (nee LeMay)

Lucille Emogene "Jeanne" Brennan, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, a daughter of William Crockett LeMay and Olive Kimmel-Kimbal LeMay Davis Patrick. Jeanne married the love of her life, Calvin U. Brennan, on Sept. 12, 1945.

Jeanne graduated from Central High School in 1943.

When Calvin Sr. was in the service, Jeanne lived with her sister, Laura Borchelt, working for the U.S. Patent Office in Richmond, Virginia. She was also employed as a seamstress at the Lowenbaum dress factory and later worked at International Shoe Co. She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church as well as First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Simple and humble by many means, Jeanne had a zest for life and appreciated God's blessings every day. Her greatest joy was sharing the word of God to all those she met. For many years, she and Calvin Sr. found much joy in teaching the word of God and were longtime Sunday school teachers in the children's ministries, and Jeanne taught a women's class many, many years. Throughout the years and as Jeanne's health declined, it was her daily ritual to share in a daily devotion and prayer time with her dear family and friends by phone.

Her many God given talents included her musical abilities from harmonica playing to singing in the church choir, being a talented seamstress by trade as well as at home where she would lovingly sew ties for Calvin to wedding dresses for family and relatives. Frequent visitors sat around her kitchen table enjoying homemade bread with strawberry preserves to her perfect chocolate chip cookies.

She loved the summertime when she and Calvin would camp at their favorite place, Sam A. Baker State Park, and they fondly became known as Grandma and Grandpa B to all the children camping as well as the families. Because of her love of the outdoors, Jeanne's gardens were full of flowers and vegetables to share with others.

Jeanne was a dedicated, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as being known as "Aunt Jean" to her many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a daughter, LaVonna Betz of Weldon Spring, Missouri; a son, Calvin II (Kathie) of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Joshua (Koren) Betz of Weldon Spring, Jonathan (Lindsay) Betz of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer (Jeremy) Betz-Seavey of St. Charles, Missouri, Casey (Marcus) Brennan-House of Cape Girardeau, Julia (Sarah) Betz of St. Charles and Emily (Derek) Brennan-Williams of Jackson; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Katherine, Tyler and Piper Betz, and Stratton Williams; as well as several beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Katherine Mosby and Laura Borchelt; and a great-grandson, Samuel Betz.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Lynwood Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Jeff Moran officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Cape County Memorial Park.

McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers and because of Jeanne's devotion to making sure her "little lambs" came to love the Lord, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Lynwood Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 2935 Lynwood Hills Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, or the donor's choice of charities.

Printed in the Tuesday, December 30, 2014 edition of the Southeast Missourian, Cape Girardeau, MO.
