Brewer, Melvin J., Jr.
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Melvin J. Brewer Jr., 70, of Perryville died Monday, July 30, 2012, at his home.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. A Catholic vigil and Knights of Columbus wake will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Revs. Charlie Prost and Michael Zoellner concelebrating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military service provided by the American Legion and U.S. Navy Honors Team.

A funeral will be held Friday, August 3, 2012 for 70-year-old Melvin J. Brewer Jr. of Perryville, who died July 30, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on November 17, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, son of Melvin J. and Catherine L. (Prost) Brewer Sr. who both preceded him in death.
He married Barbara S. Simpson on May 26, 1962. She survives in Perryville.
He was the retired fourth generation owner/manager of Brewer Monument Company and also owner/manager of Perry County Vault Company.
He is also survived by two sons and three daughters: Gregory J. (Karen) Brewer, Timothy M. (Angie) Brewer, Tracy L. Brewer, Holly S. (Mark) Behrle and Kari L. (Justin) Neal all of Perryville; a sister; Cathy A. (Francis "Wood") Gagnepain of Festus; and nine grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson: Ryan A. Behrle; a niece: Paula Jo Simpson and a brother in law: Jim Simpson.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council 1263, American Legion Post 133, and a US Navy Veteran. He was past member of Perryville Chamber of Commerce, Scout Master Boy Scout Troup 250, recipient of Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award, K of C Grand Knight, K of C 4th Degree Faithful Navigator, and Mount Hope Cemetery Board.
Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2nd and 6:30-9:30 a.m. Friday, August 3rd at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A Catholic Vigil and K of C Wake will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
A funeral mass for 70-year-old Melvin J. Brewer Jr. of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Charlie Prost will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery with military graveside service provided by American Legion and the U.S. Navy Honors Team.
Memorials are preferred to the Ryan Behrle Scholarship Fund, MDA, Birthright or St. Vincent de Paul Endowment Fund.
