Bridges, Linus Lee, Jr.

SCOPUS, Mo. -- Linus Lee Bridges Jr, 90, of Scopus passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born to L.L. Sr. and Lunda M. Yount Bridges on Nov. 9, 1924. He and Eula Bollinger were united in marriage Aug. 18, 1948.

L.L. attained distinction as a family farmer and was a partner in the Bridges Store and Garage. In 1972, Junior was elected to the Black River Electric Cooperative Board where he served for 38 years in various positions such as secretary and vice president. He and the board proved to be invaluable to the organization as it dealt with periods of rapid growth, changing technology and membership base.

Junior was an alumnus of Lutesville High School, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the 3rd Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Missouri to join his father in farming, an American tradition he continued in partnership with his son after his father's passing.

He also was a member of the Scopus United Methodist Church and Trowel Lodge. He served on the boards of Woodland School, University of Missouri Extension Council, ASCS, VIP and Mercantile Bank.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Bridges of Marble Hill, Missouri; a son, L.L. "Bud" Bridges III of Scopus; two daughters, Lee Ann Engelhardt of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and Donna Lorenz of Festus, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lee Engelhardt of Shrewsbury, Missouri, Diana Engelhardt of Crestwood, Missouri, Dana Engelhardt of Lake St. Louis, Dustin and Devin Lorenz of Festus and Michelle Bridges of Scopus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Louise Fogelsanger and Vernadeane Bollinger.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jack Leslie, Micah Bristow and Karla Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in the Cook Cemetery in Scopus.

In Lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Cook Cemetery fund.
