Brown, Paul

Paul Brown, 87, of Jackson died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Jackson Manor.

He was born Nov. 17, 1921, at Scopus, Mo., son of William Dellon and Nellie Tennessee Conder Brown. He and Betty Mae Orrell were married March 9, 1940. She died Dec. 22, 2006.

Brown was a machinist at Jackson Hosiery Mill 27 years, and at Procter & Gamble 13 1/2 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 91 of Jackson, Scottish Rite of St. Louis, 32nd degree Mason and member of Excelsior Lodge 441 AF&AM.

Brown was a private first class in the U.S. Army Rainbow Division and served in World War II. He received the Central European Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and a Bronze Star Medal for Valor.

Survivors include a son, Paul Brown Jr. of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Mayfield of Elsah, Ill.; four sisters, Lillian Hahn and Idell Dockins of Jackson, Essie Abernathy of Woodriver, Ill., Jessie Quade of Jackson; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Sunday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military rites to be conducted.
