Buchheit, Edgar Otto

Edgar O. Buchheit, 83, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Apple Creek, Mo., son of Henry W. and Theresa Anna Baer Buchheit. He and Dorothy A. Schroeder were married Sept. 12, 1953.

Edgar was a veteran of the U.S. Army, inducted April 26, 1945, and honorably discharged Dec. 15, 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon, Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal of Japan.

He worked for Ramsey Heating and Plumbing; Landgraf Plumbing, Heating and Cooling; and Hacker Plumbing, Heating and Cooling in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1996.

Edgar was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and was a former president of Pipefitters Club in Cape Girardeau. He was very skilled with his hands and loved to do crafts. He enjoyed gardening and raising white cats with blue eyes, which he often gave away.

Loving survivors include his wife of 56 years; a brother, Urban Buchheit of St. Louis; two sisters, Mary Ann Rellergert of Apple Creek and Regina Zoellner of Perryville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. William Hennecke and Deacon Walter Biri officiating. Interment will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson.
