Buelow, Charles F. "Chuck"

Charles F. "Chuck" Buelow, 91, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 70th St. in Urbandale, Iowa.

The family will greet friends for one hour prior to service time Friday.

In agreement with his wishes, cremation rites will follow the service. Burial will be in Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Charles was born March 22, 1923, in Dexter, Missouri, first child of Albert J. and Mary Felix Buelow. Charles and Pearl Frances Jones were married Aug. 30, 1944. She preceded him in death in 2010.

He was a 1942 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

After many years, Charles retired as a milk man from the former Sanitary Farm Dairy, now known as Swiss Valley Farms. He was chief of the Civil Defense/Auxiliary Police in the 1960s. After retirement he went on to become a crossing guard at Horace Mann School, often saying it was his most fulfilling job.

His positive attitude on life was contagious to all who knew him. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and took loving pride in all their accomplishments.

Charles is survived and lovingly remembered by a son, David (Nancy) Buelow of Littleton, Colorado; a daughter, Debra "Debi" (Rick) McGrath of Polk City, Iowa; two sisters, Margaret Buelow of Cape Girardeau and Barbara Rothweiler of Afton, Missouri; and a brother, Marlin (Ann) Buelow of Cape Girardeau.

Also six grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Buelow of Bloomington, Illinois, Dennis (Erin) Buelow of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Dawn (Kevin) Schafer of West Des Moines, Iowa, Christopher (Anne) McGrath of Ankeny, Rebekah (Nathan) Rippey of Urbandale and Meri McGrath of Polk City; 10 great-grandchildren, Grant Buelow, Parker Buelow, Cora Buelow, Bryant Buelow, Carsten Schafer, Zander Schafer, Emma Schafer, Chloe McGrath, Asher Rippey, Finley Rippey and Canaan Rippey; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Pearl, Charles was preceded into eternal life by his parents; a brother, Don Buelow; and a sister, Georgia Burgfeld.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Assembly of God Church.

The Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines is assisting the family with arrangements.
