Carlton, Clinton E.

ZALMA, Mo. -- Clinton E. Carlton, 90, of Zalma passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at his home.

He was born Nov. 22, 1923, at Greenbrier, Mo., the son of Otto and Opal Guthrie Carlton.

Clinton retired after 32 1/2 years as a gas serviceman for Union Electric. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a medic from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of Ladd Chapel Church and the VFW No. 3838 in Cape Girardeau. He loved woodworking, hunting and fishing.

Clinton and Shirley Whitehead were united in marriage Sept. 21, 1946, at Advance, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Roger Carlton of Jackson and Steve Carlton of Zalma; a daughter, Sharon Carlton of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister, Helen Bowers of Jackson; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren on the way.

He was preceded in death by his son, Les Carlton, on Sept. 15, 2008; brothers-in-law, Orville Bowers, Harold "Bill" Whitehead, Gary Whitehead and Charles Fisher; sister-in-law, Jean Fortner; his mother and father; and his mother-in-law, Letha Whitehead.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Brian Gill officiating and the Rev. Terry Scott assisting. Burial will be in Balch Cemetery at Zalma with full military rites.

Clinton was so loved and such a good man, he will be greatly missed.
