Clements, Elmer H.

Elmer H. Clements, 70, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Jackson Manor.

He was born July 23, 1938, in Hilderbrand, Mo., son of William and Lena Ruch Clements. He and LaVada A. Seyer were married Nov. 25, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. She passed away July 10, 2006.

Elmer was baptized and confirmed at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, Mo. He attended early elementary school at Brick School near Hilderbrand, and was an eighth-grade graduate of St. Maurus Catholic School in Biehle.

In 1958 Elmer began a four-year hitch in the U.S. Air Force and earned his GED. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

Upon returning to Jackson, he worked five years at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, and from 1970 to 1998 he was a tractor mechanic at Procter & Gamble.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson and Moonier-Reddick American Legion Post 133 in Perryville, Mo.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Helen (Steve) Crank of St. Charles, Mo., Cathy (Greg) Cain of Tamms, Ill.; six grandchildren, Katie and Christopher Crank of St. Charles, Greg (Amiee) Cain Jr., Elizabeth, Jonathan and Michael Cain, all of Tamms; a great-granddaughter, Emma Cain of Tamms; and two brothers, Gilbert Clements and Raymond (Jo Ann) Clements, all of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Edward, Norbert, Sylvester and Ralph Clements, Hilda Zoellner, Anna Finger and Hattie Estes.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7, immediately followed by the rosary.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, with Father John Harth officiating. Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
