Clifton, Norma Lee (nee Fritsche)

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Norma Lee Clifton, 86, of Perryville died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Independence Care Center of Perry County.

She was born Oct. 13, 1922, at Farrar, Mo., daughter of Max and Gertrude Muench Fritsche. She and James W. Clifton were married May 19, 1945. He died March 23, 2005.

Clifton was a wedding cake decorator. She was a member of and had been a Sunday school teacher at St. James Catholic Church at Crosstown, was a former member of the Ladies Sodality and volunteered with Perry County Voters Poll.

Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Hager of Elkton, Md., Carolyn Pecaut, Linda Mattingly and Jeanine Kennon of Perryville, Diana Kennedy of Hillsboro, Mo.; five sons, James, Richard, Stephen and Robert Clifton of Perryville, Michael Clifton of Washington, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. The Catholic wake will be at 7 tonight, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be at 9 a.m. Friday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 17th, 2008 for 86-year-old Norma Lee Clifton of Perryville, who died Tuesday, October 14th at Independence Care Center of Perry County.

She was born October 13th, 1922 in Farrar, the daughter of Max and Gertrude (Muench) Fritsche, who both preceded her in death.

She married James W. Clifton on May 19th, 1945. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by five daughters and sons in law, Patricia and Edward Hager of Elkton, Maryland, Carolyn and Larry Pecaut of Perryville, Diana and Tom Kennedy of Hillsboro, Linda and Dennis Mattingly of Perryville and Jeanine and Danny Kennon of Perryville; five sons and four daughters in law, James Clifton of Perryville, Michael and Cindy Clifton of Washington, Richard and Donell Clifton of Perryville, Stephen and Mary Ann Clifton of Perryville and Robert and Michelle Clifton of Perryville; a sister in law, Elda Fritsche of Perryville; 22 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Erwin and Gilbert Fritsche; and three sisters, Lilly Ehlers, Elsie Koch and Erna Rubel.

She was a housewife, homemaker and wedding cake decorator.

Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Thursday, October 16th and 6:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A Catholic wake will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be held at 9 a.m. Friday.

A funeral mass for 86-year-old Norma Lee Clifton of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 17th at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Joe Williams will officiate.

Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Hospice or St. James Catholic Church in Crosstown.
