Cobble, Dan Wilson
Dan Wilson Cobble, 77, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 1, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, son of Jessie Ray and Eula Wallis Cobble.
Dan was a graduate of Central High School. He was formerly married to Margie Ford. He later married Karen Otto on Feb. 14, 1990.
He loved playing baseball, basketball, and swimming in his teens. Some of his best childhood memories were traveling to the old
Busch Stadium and playing baseball on the field of his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He and his buddies, including best friend Dean Meinz, would listen to the radio and cheer as Stan Musial would hit home runs!
As a boy, Danny watched the trains roar down the tracks near his home in Cape Girardeau, dreaming that he'd someday work for the railroad.
After high school graduation, he served in the Air Force and Marine Corps.
He worked briefly on a river boat, then got a job with the Cotton Belt Railroad. The Cotton Belt later merged with Southern Pacific Railroad and then Union Pacific. He started as a brakeman and retired as a conductor. His childhood dream of riding the locomotives had come true.
Dan was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan, a dedicated American veteran, a loyal friend and an incredible father, with a deep devotion to his family.
He loved gardening, history, travel, his dogs, and celebrating his birthday and Christmas!
Dan is survived by his wife, Karen Cobble; his children, Shana (Mike) Warner, Keippi Cobble, Kayli Cobble, Ronda (Ron) Harrington and Doug Paul; grandchildren, Samantha Warner, Bo Warner and Drew Harrington; a sister, Frankie LaRay Cobble Arcand; a niece, Sunni Lynn Arcand; and cousins, Jim Wallis, Sam Smith and Danny Loy Barks. He was a beloved brother-in-law and uncle to many.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Michael Paul Arcand; a cousin, Janice Barks Reiman; and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Otto and Bill Ford.
Dan was never one for formalities and he would say, "Sit back, turn on the game, and toast to good memories."
A service will be at 10 a.m. June 6 at Resurrection Chapel in Jefferson City.
Tyler M. Woods Funeral Director in Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Cancer Society in Dan's name.
