Colyer, Ruth Marguerite (nee Dockins)

Ruth Marguerite Colyer, 87, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at Monticello House.

She was born July 7, 1926, in Burfordville, daughter of Columbus and Phyllis McManus Dockins. She and Woodrow Colyer were married June 16, 1946. He passed away June 1, 2006.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and served on various church committees. She was secretary of the adult Sunday school class many years. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association and a Jackson band mother. She gave piano lessons many years at her home.

She was the executive assistant to the president of Saint Francis Medical Center from 1968 to 1988. She was a member of Saint Francis Auxiliary and former board member of Friends of Saint Francis.

Loving survivors include three sons, Brennan (Martha) Colyer of Farmington, N.M., Gregory Colyer and Scott (Donna) Colyer of Jackson; six grandchildren, Lynda Haven and Ellyn Dimond of Farmington, Phillip, Chelsie, Rachel and Melissa Colyer of Jackson: three great-grandchildren, Layne McLaughlin, Rory and Sullivan Dimond; and a brother, Bruce (Donna) Dockins of Jackson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a son, Brennan Colyer, officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the WMU of First Baptist Church in Jackson, or church or charity of your choice.
