Conrad, Ruby Isabelle (nee Johnson)

Ruby Isabelle Conrad, 92, of Jackson passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at her home.

She was born June 15, 1916, in Gravel Hill, Mo., daughter of James Henry and Tavie Isabelle Seabaugh Johnson. She and Earl Truman Conrad were married March 28, 1942.

Ruby was a member of Millersville United Methodist Church. She taught school two years at Gravel Hill, worked at the former Wayside Restaurant in Jackson, and owned and operated the former Mac's Restaurant in Jackson.

Ruby was a true homemaker; she enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and taking good care of her family. Ruby had the honored distinction of being Jackson's first Homecomers Queen in 1935. She was recently in attendance at a Homecomers Queen Reunion, commemorating the 100-year anniversary of Jackson Homecomers.

Loving survivors include three sons, Danny K. (Roselyn) Conrad of Cape Girardeau, Donald R. (Marilyn) Conrad of Jackson, Thomas L. Conrad of Pflugerville, Texas; five daughters, Earlene Sokolowski and Alice Mae (Bernard) Proffer of Jackson, Dianna F. Reynolds and Betty J. Conrad of St. Charles, Mo., and Tavie Susan (Roger) Minson of Houston.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Steven, Scott and Stanley Sokolowski, Robert Conrad, Michelle McDowell, Laurie Zeitler, Kristen Conrad, Thomas David Conrad, Mark and Matthew Proffer, Jason Reynolds and Kelly Minson; and 17 great-grandchildren, Cory, Seth, Hayden, Reagen, Sofia and Spencer Sokolowski, Heather Hogan, Bailey and Braxton McDowell, Hallie, Morgan and Rachel Conrad, Brett, Garrett and Caden Zeitler, Drake Winschel-Conrad and Ava Proffer.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ellen Conrad; a brother, Thomas E. Johnson; three sisters, Mary Rosetta Chenoweth, Rhoda Amanda Allen, Ruth Ellamae Ward; and a son-in-law, Adolf Sokolowski.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Ward, the Rev. Stan Hargess and Mark Proffer officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to Millersville United Methodist Church, or Southeast Hospice.
