Cook, Kaye Suzzette Schumer (nee Amberger)

Kaye Suzzette Cook, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at her home.

She was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Perryville, Mo., to Meredith "John" and Alberta Mary Pick Amberger. She and Billy David Schumer were married June 17, 1967, in Perryville. He died in August 2001.

Kaye was an active member of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church. She loved to serve people. She was very dedicated to the residents at the Lutheran Home, where she was a cook.

She battled cancer two years, and said her family and her extended family in her church are what gave her strength to keep going.

Survivors include a son, David Schumer of St. Mary, Mo.; a daughter, Kristina Schumer of Cape Girardeau; a brother, James Amberger of Perryville; a sister, Yvonne Kirn of Perryville; four grandchildren, Amanda Schumer of St. Mary and Brina, Brian and Brianna Schumer of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. David Pringle officiating.
