Cook, Marion A. "Red"

Marion "Red" Cook, 64, of Whitewater passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Crump, son of Andrew B. and Lillian L. Gartung Cook. On Jan. 1, 1964, he married Barbara Ann Wilson. She survives.

Other loving survivors include one son, Steven Andrew Cook and wife Shannon of San Diego; one daughter, Debbie Lynne Wills and husband Danny of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Erna McLemore and husband Don of Jackson; and two granddaughters, Shelby and Sidney Harris of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Cook, in 1992.

Red was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 18, 1962, in St. Louis. He worked as an auto mechanic and was honorably discharged from Fort Hood, Texas, on March 22, 1963.

Red worked at the former Devore Feed and Seed Service in Whitewater. He then worked as a mechanic at Wieser Honda in Cape Girardeau, Lutesville Motor Company in Marble Hill, Mo., and 30 years at Sikeston Motors, retiring in 2003.

Friends may call today between 4 and 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. E.D. Francis officiating. Burial will be at Zion Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville with graveside military honors.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
