Cox, Lora Everett

JACKSON, Mo. -- Lora Everett Cox, 91, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Friends may call Monday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with a military honors service. Dr. Brian Anderson will officiate.

Mr. Cox was born Dec. 24, 1909 in Jonesboro, Ill. the son of the late John and Edith Harlan Cox. On Sept. 13, 1988 he married Frieda V. Blaylock. She survives.

Other loving survivors are a sister, Velta Riddle and nephew, Wayne Riddle, both of Imboden, Ark.; three great nephews, Harvey Riddle and family of House Springs, Jerry Riddle and Family of Hillsboro, Mo., and Billy Cude of Kay City, Ark.; and two great nieces, Melinda Brown and Mary Glover, both of Conway, Ark.

He was preceded in death by a son, Meridith Cox; two brothers; three sisters; and a nephew.

Mr. Cox was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. After his service time, he lived in St. Louis for 30 years, and in 1975 he moved to Jackson. He was employed in maintenance and janitorial work at Washington University from 1945 until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Cox was of the Pentecostal Faith. He was a member of the Altenthal Joerns American Legion Post No. 158 in Jackson and he was an avid gardener.
