Craft, Grace Lee (nee Abernathy)

Grace Lee Craft, 93, of Jackson, formerly of Leemon, passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

She was born July 30, 1917, near Oriole, daughter of Robert and Lela Singleton Abernathy. She and Wilson "Woody" Craft were married Dec. 9, 1939, at Jackson. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 2008.

Grace was an active member of the New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas for more than 60 years and had served as a former Sunday school teacher.

Loving survivors include two sons, Larry Gene (Sheila) Craft and Wilson (Pat) Craft, all of Jackson; two daughters, Janet (Jose) Elaydo of Jackson and Margaret (Lester) Mayfield of Scott City; two brothers, Elmer Abernathy of Sedgewickville, Mo., and Norman "Buck" Abernathy of Jackson; and a sister, Alma Abernathy of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Penny Sue Craft, six brothers, Glen, Tom, Carl, Cline, Kenneth and Lloyd Abernathy; and a sister, Betty Abernathy.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. John Rhodes and Tom Bray officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Cemetery Fund.
