Craft, Margie Maxine (nee Phillips)

Margie Maxine Craft, 75, of Jackson passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Jackson Manor.

She was born May 26, 1933, at Neelys Landing, daughter of Claude Ray Phillips and Eula Ray Robinson Clingingsmith Phillips-Johnson. She and Richard Craft were married Nov. 16, 1950.

After Maxine and Richard were married, they lived in St. Louis 12 years, during which time Maxine was a cook with the Pattonville School District. Upon returning to Jackson they farmed, as well as owned and operated the former Leemon Store in the Leemon community in the mid 1960s. They also owned and operated the former Craft Service Station in Jackson in the 1970s and worked at the former Kamp's Coin Wash in Jackson a number of years.

She was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas and had volunteered in the nursery more than 35 years. She was an avid booster of the Jackson volleyball team in the 1970s.

Maxine shared her favorite pastimes, fishing and walking along Hubble Creek, with her children and grandchildren. There was a mutual love of animals; she was attracted to them as much as they were attracted to her.

Loving survivors include her husband of 57 years; three sons, Phillip (Marsha) Craft of Jackson, Dan Craft of Kansas City, Mo., Jeff (Lisa) Craft of Jackson; a daughter, Evon Crosno of Jackson; a brother, J.D. (Mary) Phillips of Gordonville; a sister, Mae Biri of Jackson; four grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Craft, Brooke (Freddie) Santos, Jessica (Adam) Fitzgerald, and Alisha Craft; and a great-grandson, Caleb Craft.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a grandson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. John Rhodes and Johnny Clements officiating. Interment will follow in New Bethel Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Pallbearers will be her sons, Phillip, Dan and Jeff Craft; a grandson, Chad Craft; a grandson-in-law, Freddie Santos; and a nephew-in-law, Johnny Quade.

Memorials may be made to New Bethel Cemetery or your charity of choice.
