Crowell, Melva L. (nee Williams)

Melva L. Crowell, 69, of Scott City passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at her home.

She was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Crump, daughter of the late Oliver A. and Beulah "Boots" Barks Williams.

She and Eddie Crowell were married May 23, 1996, in Tennessee. He survives.

Melva graduated from Delta High School in 1956. She worked at the former Chaffee Shoe Co. in Chaffee, Mo., Blair Industry in Scott City, Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau, and in the Environmental Services at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau in the Oncology Center.

Melva was a member of Clearview Baptist Church in Scott City and was the church secretary. She enjoyed macrame as a hobby, but her greatest joy in life was being a mother and homemaker.

In addition to her loving husband, survivors include two sons, Rodney and Shawn Coomer of Scott City; four grandchildren, Cortney, Marki, Mark and Abby Coomer; a stepdaughter, Pat Jinkens of Plano, Texas; and two stepgrandchildren, Amy and Cam Early.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Coomer, in 1985, a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call today between 4 and 8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Revs. Luther Rhodes and Larry Rouse officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice.
