Dannenmueller, Cornelius "Colonel"

ORAN - Cornelius "Colonel" Dannenmueller, 82, of Scott City and formerly of Oran, died Dec. 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 10, 1919, in Oran, son of the late Albert and Rosalia Welter Dannenmueller, Colonel served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as a machine operator for Florsheim Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau and was a retired carpenter working for Yant Construction Company in Sikeston.

He was still a self-employed farmer. A member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, he was a charter member, past grand knight and fourth degree knight of Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran. He was also a very active member of Morley VFW Post 5368.

On April 16, 1941, he married Marie J. Jansen who preceded him in death on June 27, 1990.

He married Georgia Duncan on July 25, 1992, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: six sons and three daughters-in-law and three daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Terry Glenzy of Chaffee, William Dannenmueller of Biloxi, Miss., Jerome "Butch" and Martha Dannenmueller of Scott City, James and Vicky Dannenmueller of Oran, Michael Dannenmueller of Fulton, Mark Dannenmueller of Sikeston, Cornell "Buddy" and Mary Dannenmueller of Oran, Cornelia "Susie" and Larry Farrar of Oran and Carolyn and Rickey Smith of Oran; two brothers, LeRoy Dannenmueller of Kelso and Alfred Dannenmueller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four sisters, Viola Dirnberger of Oran, Lavanna LeGrand of Benton, Bert Lloyd of St. Peters and Mary Ann Dannenmueller of Oran; three stepsons, Rick Duncan of Chaffee, Ernie Duncan of Cape Girardeau and Jimmy Duncan of New Hamburg; a stepdaughter, Diane Duncan of Chaffee; and 27 grandchildren, 18 stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Velma Eftink and Ella Dannenmueller.

Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Guards with the Fourth Degree Knights will be at the visitation. Parish prayers at 7 p.m. will be followed by Knights of Columbus Council 4311 prayers at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran with the Rev. David Coon, the Rev. John Harth and the Rev. Ralph Duffner serving as concelebrants.

A military graveside service will be conducted by Morley VFW Post 5368 at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery.

His sons will serve as pallbearers: William Dannenmueller, Jerome "Butch" Dannenmueller, James Dannenmueller, Michael Dannenmueller, Mark Dannenmueller and Cornell "Buddy" Dannenmueller.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Guardian Angel Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic Church Scott City.
