Darter, Roy William

Roy William Darter, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Nicholas Washington and Mary Wood Darter.

He and Carrie A. McNeely were married March 1, 1946, at Cape Girardeau.

Roy was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army for four and a half years. He spent three and a half years in the South Pacific.

He was the manager for Rhodes LP Gas in Cape Girardeau for 25 years. Later, Roy became a salesman for Stovall Block and Brick and worked there for 15 years.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau for 65 years, VFW Post 3838 and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie A. Darter of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Roy E. (Beverly) Darter of Cape Girardeau and Terry L. (Linda) Darter of Fort Myers, Florida. Roy had three grandchildren, Erin (Joe) Hoehn of Perryville, Missouri, Rachel Darter of Chicago and Jordon Radetic of St. Louis. Roy's one great-grandchild is Hunter Hoehn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Jennifer Radetic, who died Nov. 1, 2003; one brother; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jason Hill officiating.

Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
