Davault, Harold Vernon

H. Vernon Davault, 77, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the family home.

He was born May 22, 1927, in Bollinger County, Mo., son of Ora and Ruth Snider Davault. He and Genevieve "Genny" Schreiner were married Aug. 9, 1947, in Jackson.

Vernon was inducted into the U.S. Navy May 10, 1945. He was honorably discharged July 30, 1946, as seaman first class.

He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1941. He was active in Sunday school, head usher of the 8 a.m. service, former youth group van driver, and former R.A. leader. He was a longtime member of the Tuesday Night Church Bowling League at Jackson Lanes.

He and his family moved from Jackson to their farm in 1976, where he was an avid farmer and cattleman. He was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Ben Proffer of Jackson, Susan and Chuck Bright of Washington, Mo.; a brother, Roy Davault of Cape Girardeau; a sister and brother-in-law, Della and Stan Reinholz of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Amy Philipps and husband Tom, and Greg Proffer, all of Jackson, Charlie Bright and wife Jill of St. Louis, Caitlin Bright of Washington; three great-grandchildren, Auston Proffer, Alex and Max Philipps, all of Jackson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and after 9 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. An American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Carter Frey officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Youth Ministry or Southeast Hospice.
