DeLay, Hubert L., Sr.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Hubert L. DeLay Sr., 83, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at his home in Sikeston following an extended illness.

He was born July 19, 1925, near Advance, Mo. He and June E. Workman were married April 19, 1946.

The son of the late David C. and Zelma Wright DeLay, he was a retired co-owner and co-manager of DeLay Brothers Implement Co. in Bell City, Mo., and Charleston, Mo. He was also a former farmer and landowner. DeLay was a charter member of the Charleston Recreation Association and business sponsor to numerous youth league baseball teams, bowling teams and the Bell City Olivers men's softball team. Baptized at the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, Mo., he was a faithful attendee prior to his ill health.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Gary Noisworthy of Sikeston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Vonna DeLay, Hubert Jr. and Mollie DeLay, both of Charleston. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Trevor Noisworthy, Tiffany Noisworthy Seth, Brian DeLay, Tyler DeLay Black, Rebecca DeLay Arbeiter, Tyson DeLay, Whitney DeLay and Annie-Mollie DeLay; five great-grandchildren, Jordy and Brody Seth, Austin and Noah Black, and Gracie Arbeiter. Also surviving is a brother, Jim DeLay, of Bell City, who was his lifelong partner in business and best friend.

He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, with the Rev. Gerald Penn officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Memorial Park Cemetery in Advance, Mo.

Pallbearers will be nephews Roy Lewis, Odus Lewis, Darrell DeLay, Leamond Tropf, Hollis Patterson and Kenny Bell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Watson, Alfred Bonifield, Carl Stricker, Dewey Pry, Joe Rampley, Gene Karnes, Richard Bell, J.P. Scherffius, Spurlin Beck and Eddie Stockman.
