PERRYVILLE, Mo. --Joseph C. Devenyns, 108, of Perryville died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Perry County Nursing Home. He was born March 26, 1897, in Perry County, son of John and Leonie Martens Devenyns. He and Anna Steinbecker were married Aug. 1, 1922. She died June 22, 1983...

A funeral was held today, (Monday, August 1st, 2005) for 108-year-old Joseph C. Devenyns of Perryville who died Friday, July 29th at Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born March 26th, 1897 in Perry County, the son of John and Leonie (Martens) Devenyns, who both preceded him in death.

He married Anna Steinbecker on August 1st, 1922. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include: a sister, Louise Hagan of Cape Girardeau, two grandchildren, Curtis and his wife, Tina Habeck of Frohna, and Robin Habeck of Old Appleton; and three greatgrandchildren, Stephanie, Daron and Jessica Habeck.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnn Habeck and 10 brothers and sisters, Pauline, Mary, Natalie, Camile, Leonia, Stephanie, Lawrence, Edward, Emilie and John Jr.

He was a retired farmer.

He was a former member of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Belgique and member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno, member of Perry County Levee Commission for over 20 years. He loved to hunt and play pitch.

A funeral mass for 108-year-old Joseph C. Devenyns of Perryville was held today (Monday, August 1, 2005) at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno. Burial was in the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Belgique. The Rev. Francis Agnew officiated.
