FARMINGTON — Charles Leo Duke, 89, passed away February 5, 2009, at Parkland Health Center, Farmington. Charles was the son of Joel and Jessie ‘Ellison’ Duke. Also preceding were: three Sisters; five Brothers; two Sisters-In-Law and one Brother-In-Law.

Charles was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church; a US Army WWII Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in action near Buna, New Guinea on November 30, 1942. Member, LePere-McCallister American Legion Post and Norman Rigdon VFW Post.

Survivors Include: his wife of 61 and a half years, Alsie Fern ‘Johnson’ Duke, of Farmington. Five Sisters-In-Law. Also, numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation today, 2-6 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service, Inc., Farmington. Visitation resumes Monday, 6:30 a.m., and funeral Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating. Interment, Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Ste. Genevieve County. Memorials: * Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund and/or * American Cancer Society.

Mr. Charles Leo Duke passed away late Thursday night, Feb. 5, 2009, at Parkland Health Center, South, in Farmington, at the age of 89 years, 1 month & 4 days.  Charles was born on January 1, 1920, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and was the son of Joel Duke & Jessie 'Ellison' Duke. Also preceding-in-death were: 3 Sisters: Velma Blue; Florence Maynard; Juanita Taylor. 5 Brothers: Bill Duke; Joe R. Duke; Jack Duke; Bob Duke & Beryle Duke. Also, 1 Brother-In-Law: Ronald Johnson; 2 Sisters-In-Law: Melba Seabaugh and Dana Barner.

Charles was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church.   Charles was a US ARMY Veteran of World War II.  Charles was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action near Buna, New Guinea on Nov. 30, 1942. Charles was a member of Norman L. Rigdon VFW Post #5896 & LePere-McCallister American Legion Post #416, both of Farmington. Charles and Alsie were married Aug. 9, 1947, in Hernando, Mississippi.

Survivors Include : his wife of 61 1/2 years, Alsie Fern 'Johnson' Duke, of Farmington; 5 Sisters-In-Law: Alta Miller, of California; Irene Frohock, of Farmington; Jean 'Mrs. Ed' Kuntz, of Farmington; Rowena 'Mrs. Freeman' Jones, of Farmington;  and Sherry 'Mrs. Doyen' Williams, of Fredericktown, MO. Also surviving are numerous Nieces & Nephews.

Visitation : Sunday, 2-6 p.m.  Visitation resumes Monday at 6:30 a.m.

Funeral : Monday, 10:00 a.m., February 9, 2009,

at : TAYLOR Funeral Service CHAPEL, with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating.

Interment with military honors follows at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Ste. Genevieve County, MO.

Memorials to : * The Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund   &/or  * The American Cancer Society.
