MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Henry Wilson Durham, 90, of Marble Hill died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at his home.

He was born April 10, 1919, in Lowndes, Mo., son of George and Pheraby Richey Durham. He and Pearl M. Moyers were united in marriage June 29, 1946.

Mr. Durham worked in construction and was a farmer. He was a member of Hahn Chapel General Baptist Church.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 27, 1941. He was a member of Company D of the 711th Battalion in the 7th Division, where he served as a tank commander, driver and radio operator. He saw a considerable number of military skirmishes in the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars.

He is survived by two sons, Terry (Elizabeth Miller) Durham of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, David (Karen Heil) Durham of Hardin, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kyle (Courtney Johnston) Durham of Hardin, Kristen Lee Durham of Oakland, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Simeon Caleb Durham of Hardin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Benton and Charley; four sisters, Nancy Meador, Eula McCarn, Ruby Hedrick and Alice Thomas.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hahn Chapel General Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gerald Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team and VFW post 5900.
